Michael Pickett is a Marriage and Family Therapy Graduate Student Intern from Liberty University. He earned his Bachelor’s degree in Bible Christian Counseling Summa Cum Laude and is currently completing his Master’s degree in Marriage and Family Therapy.
Michael brings a warm, approachable, and genuinely caring presence into the counseling room. He believes God uses every part of our story—both the joys and the challenges—to bring healing and growth, and that there is always hope for marriages in particular.
Michael integrates Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) with an Adlerian approach to provide thoughtful, individualized care. While CBT offers practical tools for identifying and restructuring unhelpful thought patterns, Adlerian therapy focuses on understanding the whole person — not just symptoms.
In his work, Michael explores early life experiences, family dynamics, and core beliefs that may be influencing present challenges. Together, you will identify patterns of thinking and behavior that no longer serve you and develop healthier, more empowering ways of relating to yourself and others.
A hallmark of Michael’s approach is his ability to guide clients in examining how their thoughts, relationships, and sense of purpose impact their overall well-being. Rather than concentrating solely on pathology, he emphasizes strengths, resilience, and meaningful connection.
After more than twenty years of serving his community as a police officer and walking alongside individuals and families through many seasons of life, Michael sensed God’s clear calling into counseling. These experiences cultivated a deep compassion for people and a lasting passion for strengthening marriages and families.
He is guided by the belief that people are not the problem—problems are the problem—Michael helps clients identify their existing strengths and discover meaningful solutions. He looks forward to walking alongside you toward greater connection, healing, and hope.
Michael will be practicing under supervision as part of his graduate training. He is honored to offer counseling services to couples and families at a reduced rate, helping make thoughtful, compassionate care more accessible to those seeking support.
